????A wee rant!
I remember when my daughter was a toddler, we went to a playgroup held at a school. There was a table with collage papers with the aim of producing a tree. My daughter did it in her own way and enjoyed the process until a group leader came over and said “you’re doing it wrong.” She took the glue spreader out of my daughter’s hand and proceeded to edit her picture to make it look like the standardised tree she invisaged. I couldn’t believe she did that, I felt like we had been trampled on and felt so awful for my daughter. Unfortunately, there is way too much squashing of kid’s creativity at all levels which totally defeats the object of the arts in the first place! ???? Please, let your children explore their creative needs in their own time, they know what they are doing!
