Left brain, right brain or both?

🎨This is a very interesting diagram.
Why do most people see the creative subjects as a cop out with parents spending more time seemingly promoting the importance of plugging their children with numbers and facts and the more ‘academic’ subjects? I find it so upsetting!
This diagram shows how an art education grows and develops the brain. There has been countless research into how those children who study art have higher scores in reading and attainment. Art does not just use one side of the brain, it impacts it as a whole and grows the person as a whole.
I am going to be honest now. I get frustrated when parents tell me that their child will not be returning to art class because they need to study for their 11+. My heart sinks. I know there will be many of you out their who will disagree with me but this is a time when they need it most! Children need a break from all that academia and left brain thinking, they need a way to relax and express themselves under the pressure being applied on them. They need to continue to use their whole brain and keep linking those neuron’s to support development and growth in thinking and applying knowledge. The creation of art encourages problem solving and critical thinking which the 11+ relies heavily on. By all means, practice for the 11+ but do not take away the child’s creative outlet. It can actually support your child, why only concentrate on working one side of the brain when art supports both? The world needs creative thinkers, not robots. 🎨👣
