Creative Stars

Creative Stars is an art class for children aged 4 – 11 years where parents are invited to stay and get creative alongside their children. Classes are held in my art studio where I pride myself in creating a supportive, friendly and stimulating environment where everybody’s ideas are valued and listened to. With my support, children are encouraged to explore their own ideas and develop success and confidence at their own pace.

The classes aim to introduce children to the world of art by teaching about artists, art movements and art from different world cultures. All 6 strands of art are taught, these being drawing, painting, collage, printing, 3D work and textiles along with the visual elements of art and critical analysis of artwork. Children are exposed to a range of quality media to support their learning in each strand.  Classes also support and exceed the National Curriculum standards for art.

Games and puzzles are also used to vary the children’s approach to learning. There is also a reward sticker system in place where the children get the chance to win prizes whilst learning about famous artists.

Children are encouraged to work as artists and are provided with a sketchbook. As the age range is wide, activities are differentiated by task, outcome and expectations plus additional homework projects for the older children to further their understanding and build upon existing skills, knowledge and understanding.

I work within the framework of half termly themes and plan and devise my own programmes of study which is handed out to parents. Visits and trips are also planned to support the children’s learning and understanding where appropriate. Children also have the opportunity to exhibit their work to the public in St. Andrews church.
